Paru's Indian Food

Paru's Restaurant is a Hollywood gem - serving up delicious South Indian cuisine with personality and love. Anyone who is serious about Indian Food needs to make this place a regular stop.

Paru's has a unique and authentic menu - a lot of their dishes were new to me and exciting to try, I don't find them offered up at most other Indian eateries. No tofu, and no naan, no chicken tikka masala - but they do have Samosas, so no need to panic. The place is vegetarian, and still attracts many meat-lovers.

If you find yourself at a loss on what to order just do what I always do - talk to your waiter (who is often times the owner) and tell him what you like/are in the mood for (and whether or not it has to be vegan) and he will whip up something yummy. You can order things a la carte or get one of their signature dishes (which is humongous and always enough to share with someone else). Their lunch specials are awesome too.  I'm told to they cook all the vegan food separately which is a plus.

Any fan of Paru's will tell you not to be deterred by the exterior which is - well - deterring. Located on Sunset not too far from the 101 and a stone's throw from Home Depot and Freestyle Photo, the exterior looks like a dilapidated cramped cube. There's a sign in the window that says "Open" but one may be inclined not to believe it. You press a grimy buzzer and - voila - open the gate into - not a room BUT - a big and lovely courtyard, with welcoming plant life and more space than you ever imagined. Its like climbing out of the rabbit hole, or into the depths of Mary Poppins' purse. The restaurant itself is clean and cozy. I can almost guarantee you will feel smug upon entering, as though you have been initiated into LA's best kept secret.

Its a small and intimate atmosphere, dinner is usually busy but in the many times I have been, I never waited for a table. (Hint to LA Celeb Lovers: There was a discrete celebrity spotting this past weekend). The inside is warm and has really rich, beautiful, Indian decor. The front of the restaurant bosts a big, green, covered patio as well. And for the amount of food the prices are really awesome. I've never left without food to take home.

Camaraderie, relaxation, a happy stomach, and serenity of the soul--these are the experiences that await you at Paru's. (taken from their website)
