Yamashiro Nighttime Farmers Market

Tucked up in the hills off Franklin Ave, just above the mysterious Magic Castle and neighbor to the Hollywood Bowl, is the Yamashiro Farmers Market.

Gorgeous sunset views of the city, accented by lovely Japanese inspired landscapes, live music, and unique local flavors for sale - this is a wonderful way to spend one's Thursday night.

Last night the BF and I went to check it out for the first time. After navigating the short yet tight and windy road to the parking lot for Yamashiro (a swanky Japanese restaurant) and passing off our truck to the valet ($2 with validation from the market) We navigated serpentine-like down through the Japanese garden to a little cement parking strip nestled into the hillside.

The restaurant, aside from supplying the property, also has a tent set up for wine tasting and a gourmet taco stand (with fillings such as duck meat and ribs - not very vegan friendly but undoubtedly a crowd pleaser) with some delicious looking salsas.

One can sit at a little candle lit table and listen to some live music whilst enjoying yummy purchases. And for those who have to drag their kids along - there was a forlorn looking clown desperate to entertain and hand out some balloon animals.

Other booths I came across were:

* Cobblermania  vegan cobbler

* Mayan Delicacy Salsas & Ceviche

 * Brother Products' hummus, olive mixes, and artichoke dips. (One of the best hummus I have had AND an artichoke dip unmatched by any other)
 * An espresso bar provided by Longshot

* Gorgeous fresh produce from (I was seduced by some sexy plump and firm tomatoes which made for an excellent pomodoro sauce)

* Rockenwagner bakery stand

*GC Crepe Makers

* Klausesbees fresh local honey

* ChocoVivo Fresh Ground Chocolates

* Handmade soaps

* Clothing, jewelry, and accessories (including an awesome assortment of bags made from recycled billboards)

If you are interested in attending - make sure to check out LA City Farm for a list of what Vendors will be there that week!

And because I enjoyed it so much - here is the recipe for the pasta I made with some of those Divine tomatoes:

INGREDIENTS

Dynamic Duo (olive oil and garlic) - about 2-3 cloves of garlic a few tablespoons oil
2-3 Sexy Tomatoes - chopped into large pieces (half of a crescent moon slice)
Chopped Basil to taste (preferably fresh)
Capers
Couple pinches oregano
Red chili flakes to taste

Add the oil and heat up on medium heat, saute the garlic till the first hints of brown appear.
Add all the rest of the ingredients! Reduce heat and let simmer while you make the pasta.
Mix it all together and enjoy!

(Serves 1-2)
